Nurse Prescribing

It took a long time but we got there in the end. First the law had to be changed to allow non medical prescribing, then it was rolled out very slowly while the whole process was carefully watched to make sure there were not going to be risks for patients. First we got a very limited formulary for those nurses with a qualification beyond basic registration, recorded at the NMC, these were Health Visitors and District Nurses. Despite having robust training in Pharmacology Nurse Practitioners were not included. After all..."what are Nurse Practitioners" was a question often asked, and until the NMC record who trained Nurse Practitioners are, there is no record that we are competent to do what we say we can do! But we got there in the end, we went and did the required training courses, worked within the restrictions as we have always done, got the right to print out prescriptions like our GP colleagues, and we even get some feedback on what we most commonly prescribe

Some of the resources listed need you to register with the site. If you have Athens log in then you can get a lot more.

Please let me know of any other useful resources.

CMPs have become "redundant" since the BNF was opened up to us. There are still some old copies stored if you want to look at them.
